Each year, The Washington Post’s Capital Business ranks the firms and organizations that power the local economy. Here, we look at the organizations that topped each segment of the list.
Top public company: Lockheed Martin Lockheed Martin topped the list of public companies because its revenue for fiscal year 2012, $47.1 billion, was higher than that of any other local publicly traded firm. Lockheed Martin welcomed a group of new leaders, starting with Marillyn A. Hewson at the top. The company also appointed Sondra L. Barbour to take over the information systems and global solutions business and Rick F. Ambrose to head the space systems unit. In an effort to unify its sales efforts overseas, the contractor founded a new group, Lockheed Martin International.
