Washington area business diary for week of May 12

Baltimore-based Baltimore Sun Media Group said it has acquired the Annapolis Capital and Carroll County Times newspapers from Norfolk, Va.-based Landmark Media Enterprises.

Rockville-based Vestar Capital Partners said it has completed its previously announced $364 million acquisition of Rockville-based Institutional Shareholder Services, which provides proxy advisory and corporate governance services.

Calls for nominations

The Washington, D.C. Metro Area Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals is accepting nominations for outstanding philanthropists and fundraisers for its 13th annual National Capital Philanthropy Day awards. Deadline is May 23. Visit for more information.


District-based social market intelligence company NewBrandAnalytics said in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission that it has raised a little more than $5 million in a new round of funding.

Bethesda-based WealthEngine, which develops wealth identification and prospect research software, said it has raised $7 million in its second round of funding.
