There have been 507 named storms in the Atlantic since 1970, and 268 of them were classified as hurricanes. The year with the most named storms was 2005, with 28, breaking the record of 21 set in 1933. The least active storm years were 1930, with two; and 1983, with four. The new Atlantic hurricane season has already seen one tropical storm, Andrea, which hit Florida last week.
