Many small businesses are still looking to get back on track in the wake of the recession, but in some cities, the recovery appears to be accelerating on Main Street.

The fastest growing small business city in the country right now is Houston, Texas, according to new rankings compiled by lending service provider Biz2Credit. The city’s firms tend to be older and larger than their counterparts in other metropolitan areas, and they boast the fifth highest annual revenues in the United States.

Washington, D.C. and Los Angeles, California rounded out the top three spots in this year’s rankings. The Golden State was the only state to place more than one city in the top 10 (3 total).

The rankings are based on average annual revenue, employee totals, business age, credit scores and local tax rates.
