Apple reported that some of its users are unable to use iCloud services such as Documents in the Cloud, Photo Stream, iPhoto Journals and backup services, as well as problems with its iMessage service.
Some iMessage users may not be able to send or download attachments on the service, according to a message on the company’s status site.
Apple’s site said that fewer than 1 percent of it users are affected by the disruption, which appears to have started around 1 a.m. and continued throughout the morning.
Apple’s most recent public statement on the number of people using iCloud said 300 million people use the service — meaning that about 3 million people may be experiencing problems Thursday morning.
Around 9 a.m., Apple also reported that around 16 percent of iTunes users were unable to make purchases at the iTunes store for about an hour. Apple could not immediately be reached for comment on what may be behind the disruption.
Apple’s last major service outage was last month, when the company confirmed that its developer Web site had been hacked and took the site down to deal with the issues. Apple later put the developer site back up in stages.
The company also experienced a brief but widespread outage of its iCloud and iTunes services in June, when 20 percent of users were unable to access iCloud services or make iTunes purchases for just over an hour.
