eBay's new logo is now live, along with some major changes to the site.

Fresh from announcing a new logo, online retail and auction site eBay said Wednesday that it’s planning much bigger changes to the business as well.

The company is throwing its hat into the ring for same-day delivery, competing with similar services from Walmart and Amazon.

A combination of a concierge and shopping service, the program, called eBay Now, is currently limited to the San Francisco area, but the company has already pushed out an app for Apple devices that outlines the way it works.

According to the app, users can order something from the site and have it delivered by a valet service . The app also has a section that lists goods from area retailers such as Target or Best Buy so that eBay Now users can have things delivered from those stores as well. The app suggests possible uses for the service, such as calling in for emergency diaper or pet food deliveries. The app even suggests having eBay deliver picnic equipment directly to your local park.

The minimum purchase for delivery is $25, according to the app, though users can elect to pay the difference.

The company also is redesigning its Web site into a grid layout, taking design cues from the photo-sharing site Pinterest.

“We’re delivering a cleaner, contemporary look and feel; a more intuitive, convenient way to browse, decide and buy – both globally and locally; and a new personal way to curate your own shopping experience and discover items perfect for you,” wrote eBay president Devin Wenig in a note on the Web site.

Wenig said that eBay also is concentrating heavily on mobile commerce, saying buyers should be able to move across devices and online and offline seamlessly.

“This is how consumers will connect to the things they need and love,” he wrote. “Not online or offline. Just shopping, anytime, anywhere.”

The company’s stock was trading slightly up Thursday at $46.31 per share.
