Students received instruction from traditional and multimedia journalists and gained experience in storytelling through researching, reporting, interviewing, taking photos, and capturing and editing video. The skills training seminars were conducted over eight consecutive Tuesday’s from 3:00 PM – 5 PM at The Post and on Thursday’s from 2 PM – 4:30 PM on the Duke Ellington campus. 

Students received training on Tuesday’s at The Post and on Thursday’s on a variety of topics including:

• An introduction to the fundamentals of journalistic writing

• Finding News

• Journalism Ethics and Standards

• Copy Editing

• News Literacy

• Basics of Journalism Photography and Videography

• Writing in a variety of journalistic genres (features, opinion, sports, entertainment, culture and the arts).

• Careers in Journalism

Students worked in teams to conduct research and interviews, practice story development and editing.  Prime Movers Media mentors and media professionals offered their time as mentors.
