One man shot and wounded another during an altercation inside a store at Potomac Mills Mall on Thursday afternoon, Prince William County police said.

Prince William County Police Chief Peter Newsham said the incident happened about 3 p.m. Officers responded to 2700 Potomac Mills Circle in Woodbridge, Va., and found the shooting was isolated to the Fashion Mechanics store, police said.

According to an initial investigation, while a man was inside the store another man entered and the pair got into a physical altercation, police said. The patron retrieved a gun and fired multiple times during the altercation, striking the other man, police said. The men both fled the store and the injured man drove himself to a hospital for treatment of nonfatal injuries, police said. The gunman fled the area before police arrived, they said.

The shooting was contained within the Fashion Mechanics store, police said. No additional injuries were reported.

Newsham described the incident as isolated and said “there is no threat to the public.” The mall remains open, though the store is closed during the investigation.

Police said the gunman has not been identified or located. No arrest has been made and an investigation is ongoing. Police are asking anyone with information to contact 703-792-6500.
