1 killed, 1 wounded in drive-by shooting in Dupont Circle, police say

Two men were shot, one fatally, late Thursday in the Dupont Circle neighborhood, police said.

Officers were in the area about 9:30 p.m. when they heard gunshots, said Second District Cmdr. Duncan Bedlion. They found a man suffering from gunshot wounds at the intersection of Connecticut and Florida avenues in front of Assets, a strip club. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police found another man also suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital and was in critical but stable condition late Thursday, Bedlion said.

James Brooks, an Assets employee, said he didn’t see the shooting, but when he arrived at work, officers told him that he couldn’t enter. He said Assets had to close for the remainder of the evening.

“You see all this stuff in the news, and I’ve never been a part of anything like this,” said Brooks, 32. “We have our times of drunk people that we have to take out, but nothing crazy like this.”

Brooks said he hadn’t been able to talk to other co-workers who were inside Assets at the time of the shooting.

Police said that they don’t know what sparked the shooting, but that a silver car was involved. They also said they think there was more than one shooter.

Police asked that anyone with information call at 202-727-9099.
