Scooter operator killed in crash in Southeast D.C., police say

The collision happened about 11 p.m. Friday, according to authorities

A man operating a motorized scooter was killed Friday night in a collision in Southeast Washington, D.C. police said.

Jonathan Plater, 30, of Lanham, Md., was going north in the 2700 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue about 11 p.m. when a car that was trying to turn left from the southbound lanes of the avenue collided with his scooter, the police said.

Plater was thrown from his scooter and died at the scene, according to the police.

Police said they are investigating.
