U.S. Senate

star

Key race

Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (D), the only Latina in the Senate, is one of the GOP’s top targets this fall. She faces former state attorney general Adam Laxalt — who was the co-chair of Trump’s 2020 Nevada campaign and has the ex-president’s backing — and beat Afghanistan veteran Sam Brown (R) in the primary. Laxalt denies the results of the 2020 election; Cortez Masto is suffering from a focus on the economy and inflation.

Cortez Masto (D) is projected to win.

Other statewide races

Former assemblyman Jim Marchant won the GOP primary for the open secretary of state job. He says he wants to eliminate voting machines and mail-in ballots and empower state lawmakers in federal elections. Marchant is one of the “alternate” slate of electors the Nevada GOP submitted to overturn Joe Biden’s 2020 legitimate victory. He faces attorney Cisco Aguilar (D).

U.S. House

Nearly all of Nevada’s incumbent Democrats are in competitive races, partially because of how their seats were redrawn in redistricting. Reps. Dina Titus (D) and Susie Lee (D) in the 1st and 3rd districts, respectively, are in the most heated contests; while Rep. Steven Horsford (D) in the 4th District is also in a tight race.

The Post estimated the lean of 2022 congressional districts using 2020 presidential results by precinct from Decision Desk HQ and estimates where actual votes at the precinct level were unavailable. Districts classified as “Strong Biden” and “Strong Trump” show where a candidate is estimated to have won by 15 percentage points or more. “Lean Biden” and “Lean Trump” districts had estimated vote margins between five and 15 points. “Close” districts show an estimated margin within five points.
