Rep. Jerry McNerney wins California's 9th Congressional District seat

Rep. Jerry McNerney, a Democrat, has won another term representing California's 9th Congressional District, beating Marla Livengood, a Republican.

With all precincts reporting, McNerney has 55.9 percent of the vote, followed by Livengood with 44.1 percent.

McNerney has represented the district in the House since 2013.

Democrats have gained a majority in the House, with 232 seats in the next Congress. All of California's House seats have been decided; six switched hands, all going to Democrats.

The number of votes cast for Democrats in House races has increased 47.9 percent from the 2014 midterms, compared with an increase of 23.4 percent for Republicans.

The district went for Democrat Hillary Clinton in 2016 by a margin of 18.2 points. Clinton won California by 30 points.
