Michael Waltz wins Florida's 6th Congressional District seat

Republican Michael Waltz has beaten Nancy Soderberg, a Democrat, in the race for the House seat representing Florida's 6th Congressional District, which is currently open.

With all precincts reporting, Waltz has 56.3 percent of the vote, followed by Soderberg with 43.7 percent.

The seat is currently open.

Democrats have gained a majority in the House, with 235 seats in the next Congress. All of Florida's House seats have been decided; two switched hands, all going to Democrats.

The number of votes cast for Democrats in House races has increased 55.0 percent from the 2014 midterms, compared with an increase of 25.6 percent for Republicans.

The district went for President Trump, a Republican, in 2016 by a margin of 17 points. Trump won Florida by 1.2 points.
