Rep. Darren Soto wins Florida's 9th Congressional District seat

Rep. Darren Soto, a Democrat, has won another term representing Florida's 9th Congressional District, beating Wayne Liebnitzky, a Republican.

With all precincts reporting, Soto has 58 percent of the vote, followed by Liebnitzky with 42 percent.

Soto has represented the district in the House since 2017.

Democrats have gained a majority in the House, with 235 seats in the next Congress. All of Florida's House seats have been decided; two switched hands, all going to Democrats.

The number of votes cast for Democrats in House races has increased 55.0 percent from the 2014 midterms, compared with an increase of 25.6 percent for Republicans.

The district went for Democrat Hillary Clinton in 2016 by a margin of 12.9 points. President Trump, a Republican, won Florida by 1.2 points.
