Rep. Cheri Bustos wins Illinois's 17th Congressional District seat

Rep. Cheri Bustos, a Democrat, has won another term representing Illinois' 17th Congressional District, beating Bill Fawell, a Republican.

With all precincts reporting, Bustos has 62.1 percent of the vote, followed by Fawell with 37.9 percent.

Bustos has represented the district in the House since 2013.

Democrats have gained a majority in the House, with 235 seats in the next Congress. All of Illinois's House seats have been decided; two switched hands, all going to Democrats.

The number of votes cast for Democrats in House races has increased 55.0 percent from the 2014 midterms, compared with an increase of 25.6 percent for Republicans.

The district went for Democrat Hillary Clinton in 2016 by a margin of 0.7 points. Clinton won Illinois by 16.9 points.
