Sylvia Garcia wins Texas's 29th Congressional District seat

Democrat Sylvia Garcia has beaten Phillip Aronoff, a Republican, in the race for the House seat representing Texas' 29th Congressional District, currently held by Democrat Gene Green.

With all precincts reporting, Garcia has 75.1 percent of the vote, followed by Aronoff with 23.9 percent.

Green has represented the district in the House since 1993.

Democrats have gained a majority in the House, with 235 seats in the next Congress. All of Texas's House seats have been decided; two switched hands, all going to Democrats.

The number of votes cast for Democrats in House races has increased 55.0 percent from the 2014 midterms, compared with an increase of 25.6 percent for Republicans.

The district went for Democrat Hillary Clinton in 2016 by a margin of 45.6 points. President Trump, a Republican, won Texas by nine points.
