The Paper Party

The number of opportunities to get crafty post-work with a beverage in hand are growing. Along with the Renwick Gallery’s Handi-Hour and wine-fueled painting with ArtJamz, add this entry: the Paper Collective’s launch party. The new group, formed by artists and writers in Washington and Brooklyn, is dedicated to promoting creativity through monthly requests for artistic submissions (the first installment: Send in your self-portraits), which are less about a final product — and seeing your work on the group’s Web site — than about the process of exercising your imagination. Meet the people behind the calls to creative action during a launch party at Penn Quarter’s Gold Leaf Studio with an evening of live music and prizes, plus craft time, of course. And to put its money where its mouth is, all proceeds from the event will benefit nonprofit arts organization Capitol Hill Arts Workshop.

Thursday at 7 p.m. Gold Leaf Studios, 443 I St. NW. www.thepapercollectiveparty.eventbrite.com. $10 suggested donation.
