TV highlights for Sept. 17: ‘The Mindy Project,’ ‘New Girl’ return

SERIES PREMIERE: “Latino Americans” (WETA, MPT at 8), a three-part miniseries about the experience of Latinos in the United States, is previewed by Carlos Lozada.

SERIES PREMIERE: NeNe Leakes (of “Real Housewives of Atlanta” fame) remarries her ex-husband, Gregg, which obviously deserves a reality series. On “I Dream of NeNe: The Wedding” (Bravo at 9), the couple get ready to tie the knot for a second time.

RETURNING SHOW: The gang on “New Girl” (Fox at 9) is back for a third season, and Jess and Nick are officially a couple; in fact, they even head to Mexico on a romantic vacation. Unfortunately, Nick’s run-ins with the law mean their impulsive beach getaway will probably end in disaster.

RETURNING SHOW: When we last left “The Mindy Project” (Fox at 9:30), Mindy was promising her pastor boyfriend, Casey, that she would go with him on a volunteer mission to Haiti. Sure enough, the second season picks up as the couple are living in Haiti, and Casey has a very surprising question for Mindy.

SERIES PREMIERE: Young professionals in Atlanta land a chance for reality show fame on “The New Atlanta” (Bravo at 10), as five potential tabloid figures — who work in fashion, music and event planning — hit the town and quickly find drama in the opener.

SERIES PREMIERE: Expert appraisers and twin brothers Leigh and Leslie Keno (of “Antiques Roadshow” fame) take their talents to “Buried Treasure” (CNBC at 10), traveling to people’s houses to see how much antiques are really worth.

FINALE WATCH: It’s the end for Syfy’s “Heroes of Cosplay” (at 10), which features “the ultimate fanboy marriage proposal,” as Victoria’s in for a surprise from her boyfriend, Jinyo — and Chewbacca (“Star Wars” actor Peter Mayhew) stops by to help.

Actor Bill Murray and singers Lenny Kravitz and Gladys Knight are on “The Late Show With David Letterman” (CBS at 11:35).

“The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” (NBC at 11:35) hosts actor Neil Patrick Harris, reality show judge Demi Lovato and a performance by Five for Fighting.

Actress Amy Poehler, actor Stephen Merchant and musical guest Bastille visit “Jimmy Kimmel Live” (ABC at 11:35).
