TV highlights: Halle Berry’s ‘Extant’ premieres on CBS

The CW brings Miami Beach to your living room with the “iHeartRadio Ultimate Pool Party” (8 p.m.), a concert special with performances from Jennifer Lopez, Ariana Grande, Neon Trees, Tiesto, Iggy Azalea and Lil Jon. As with all television specials these days, Nick Cannon hosts.

The Top 20 perform live and two contestants are eliminated on “So You Think You Can Dance” (Fox at 8).

SERIES PREMIERE: The thriller series “Extant” (CBS at 9) focuses on Molly Woods, a female astronaut (played by Halle Berry) trying to reconnect with her family after she returns from 13 months in outer space.

SERIES PREMIERE: “American Muscle” (Discovery at 9) zooms in on an intense fitness gym in the Detroit area run by former college football coach Mike Barwis, where everyday people and professional athletes come to get pushed way past their physical limits. In the first episode, the Washington Redskins’s Chris Neild comes to build muscle, worried that his contract won’t be renewed.

SERIES PREMIERE: Hosted by Carter Oosterhouse of “Trading Spaces” fame, “Rowhouse Showdown” (FYI at 9) challenges teams to transform dilapidated rowhouses in Cincinnati.

SERIES PREMIERE: “Tiny House Nation” (FYI at 10), a show that might be most helpful/encouraging to District dwellers, has renovation experts John Weisbarth and Zack Giffin travelling across America showing off ingenious small spaces and the inventive people who live in them, as well as helping new families design and construct their own mini-dream home in a space no larger than 300 square feet.

Poor Mona Lisa gets put under the microscope yet again on “Secrets of the Dead” (MPT and WETA at 10) as art historians examine an earlier version of the masterpiece.

RETURNING SHOW: “The Bridge” (FX at 10) returns for Season 2 with Sonya encountering a man from her past and Marco recognizing that he is no longer safe in his own department.

Television host Kelly Ripa and actor Jason Clarke come to “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” (NBC at 11:35), along with music from Sylvan Esso.

“Masters of Sex’s” Lizzy Caplan is on the “Late Show With David Letterman” (CBS at 11:35), with musical guests Sleeper Agent.

Actors Robert Pattinson and Pablo Schreiber stop by “Jimmy Kimmel Live” (ABC at 11:35), with Nico & Vinz playing musical guests.
