TV highlights: The 49th annual ‘MDA Show of Strength Telethon’ on ABC

SERIES PREMIERE: The six-part series “Raiders of the Lost Art” (Ovation at 7 p.m.) uses re-enactments, archival footage and commentary to piece together how famous pieces of art have gone missing. The premiere episode delves into Hitler’s art “dealer” Cornelius Gurlitt.

Ahead of the new episode, BBC America has the special “Doctor Who: Earth Conquest” (BBC America at 8) which features the 12th doctor (Peter Capaldi) and Jenna Coleman racing around seven cities on five continents to promote the show.

Immediately following that one-hour geekout is the latest “Doctor Who” (BBC America at 9) installment with the Time Lord running into a Dalek fleet to rescue a lone rebel ship.

Claire plans an escape at the “Gathering” but is blocked by a run-in with a drunken Dougal on “Outlander” (Starz at 9).

Sunday talk shows: “Platts Energy Week” (WUSA at 8 a.m.) includes an interview with Bob Dinneen of the Renewable Fuels Association; “BioCentury This Week” (WUSA at 8:30) features Oregon Health and Science University’s Brian J. Druker; “Fox News Sunday” (Fox at 9) hosts Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.); “White House Chronicle” (WETA at 9) has Brown University’s Nitin Padture; “State of the Union” (CNN at 9) features Rep. C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger (D-Md.).

“Government Matters” (WJLA at 9:30) hosts the U.S. Cyber Challenge’s Karen Evans; “This Week” (ABC at 10) features Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.); “Newsmakers” (C-SPAN at 10) includes Congressional Budget Office’s Douglas Elmendorf; “Sunday Morning Futures With Maria Bartiromo” (Fox News Channel at 10) hosts Overstock.com’s Patrick Byrne; “This Is America & the World” (WETA at 10 and WHUT at 6 p.m.) includes a conversation with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe; “Face the Nation” (CBS at 10:30) features Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.).

Sunday night, Kesha, Sara Bareilles, Rascal Flatts, LeAnn Rimes and others come together to raise funds and awareness for the Muscular Dystrophy Association on “2014 MDA Show of Strength Telethon” (ABC at 9 p.m.).

Setrakian discovers that ultraviolet light can be used against the strigoli, and a trip to a Brooklyn convenience store turns deadly on “The Strain” (FX at 10).

Masters treats a couple he knows for infertility while Johnson treats a woman on her own on “Masters of Sex” (Showtime at 10).
