I think HBO needs to sort out its priorities. Ice cream really could’ve helped the plot.

@thewrightguy_, joking about Sunday night’s episode of “Big Little Lies.” Fans of the HBO drama were disappointed to discover that a scene in which Reese Witherspoon, left, throws an ice cream cone at Meryl Streep was cut. Fans were anticipating the showdown between the actresses’ characters after stills of the heated exchange were released last year while the current season was filming. Streep told Entertainment Tonight, in an interview published Sunday, that the scene would be in the DVD extras.

@JamesJeffersonJ, mourning the murder of 17-year-old Elijah Al-Amin on Thursday. Elijah was stabbed to death in Peoria, Ariz., by a white man who told police the teen was listening to rap music and it made him feel “unsafe.” According to The Root, the suspect’s lawyers are claiming he is mentally ill. The news outraged many, who lamented both that a black teen was killed and that mental illness is used as an excuse.

And THIS is precisely why the U.S. Women’s Team, BACK-TO-BACK WORLD CUP CHAMPS, deserve to be paid more.

@jt_teran, tweeting about U.S. men’s soccer forward Jozy Altidore’s missed scoring chance during Sunday’s 1-0 loss to Mexico in the Gold Cup final. The shot immediately drew comparisons to the U.S. women’s team, which earlier Sunday won its second consecutive World Cup. Fans said women’s forward Morgan wouldn’t have missed. The loss renewed talk about equal pay, as the men’s team — which failed to qualify for last year’s World Cup — is paid more than the women’s team, which is suing the U.S. Soccer Federation for better wages.

This issue is rough, but begs the question: Are most of the people outraged at the pricing actually going to attend?

@ChanelOfArabia, reacting to the backlash surrounding Detroit’s Afrofuture Fest. The Aug. 3 event received heavy media attention after it was revealed that people of color could purchase early bird tickets for $10 and door tickets for $20, while white individuals would have to pay $20 and $40, respectively. White and black people decried the pay disparity as racist. After Eventbrite said it was considering pulling the festival from its site, Afrofuture’s organizers altered the pricing: Everyone must pay $20, though white attendees are encouraged to make a donation.

I can’t wait for Mariah Carey to become a playable character in Mortal Kombat for this.

@brownskinliam, joking about Mariah Carey’s take on the Bottle Cap Challenge. Instead of attempting to kick just the top of a bottle off, Carey used her signature whistle register. The high note appears to remove the cap from a bottle of wine. Twitter users have crowned Carey the winner of the challenge for her technique.
