A SIMPLE EQUATION brought Chris Olson and Acasia Barrett together: “Friends + feelings = couple,” Olson says. They met in an internship program in Atlanta but didn’t talk much until a chance meeting at the library led to sparks. Though they went their separate ways after the program, Acasia recalls “telling my mom that Chris was someone I could see myself marrying.”

They began dating long-distance and realized the relationship was the real thing: When Chris applied to grad schools, he gave up a full ride to Emory in favor of Johns Hopkins so they could be closer. On their 11-month anniversary, Chris proposed in GWU‘s Kogan Plaza with a long poem he’d penned.

Chris, 23, is an environmental health and safety intern. Acasia, 24, is a research assistant in HIV/AIDS prevention. They will live in Rockville and are marrying May 30.
