Alice, 26, works for the treasury department. Josh, 30, is studying sports medicine. They live in Silver Spring.

» The Main Event: On Sept. 19, they’ll wed in a semiformal, outdoor civil ceremony in Frederick. Josh’s uncle will officiate, and the recessional will be “When the Saints Go Marching In” in honor of Josh’s Louisiana heritage.

» How They Met: Through friends, at a party. He tried to talk to her about her Fear Factory watch, “but she snubbed me.” They talked again at a New Year’s party a few months later.

» First impressions: “He was handsome, funny, and it was cool that we both liked heavy metal.”

» First Date: Dinner at Amphora in Vienna, Va.

» How He Proposed: “He dropped hints that he got me an awesome Christmas gift, and two days before Christmas gave me … a hat,” Alice says. “She was totally thrown off the scent,” Josh says. On Christmas morning, he asked her to be his wife.

» Pet Names: She’s “Stinky,” and he’s “Smelly.”

» With Infinite Funds: Metallica would play at the reception, and the New Orleans Saints would give a toast. “Then we’d fly everyone to New Orleans for beignets,” Josh says.
