“Apollo 18” opens Friday, purporting to tell the story of NASA’s hidden moon mission. Going to the moon is cool, but you know what else is cool? People with the name “Apollo.”

Apollo Creed: Playing one character across multiple films is always a challenge, as Carl Weathers demonstrated in “Rocky” I through IV. Especially if the character requires you to be in absolutely inhuman shape.

Apollonia Kotero: Her major role in Prince’s 1984 film “Purple Rain” wasn’t her big-screen debut — that came in the 1980 film “Sex Beach,” which we haven’t seen. Amazingly. Do you think it’s on Netflix?

Nick Apollo Forte: In 1984’s “Broadway Danny Rose,” his one and only film, Forte nails the part of Lou Canova, a big-lug crooner who eventually dumps his D-list agent, played by Woody Allen. (Co-star Mia Farrow must have been taking notes.)

Apollonia: Michael Corleone’s first wife, who he marries in Sicily. Italian actress Simonetta Stefanelli played the woman who should have checked the car before turning the key in the 1972 first “Godfather” film.

Apollo (the actual god): “Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief” (released in 2010)had too long of a title, but it’s actually a pretty good movie. Played by actor Dimitri Lekkos, Apollo didn’t do much other than stand around and look hot. But we’ll take it.
