History Makeover

Tyra Banks has created a new premise for cycle 18 of “America’s Next Top Model”: Seven Americans versus seven Brits. It’s a “British Invasion!”

In the first episode, airing Wednesday at 9 p.m. on CW, lots o’ “facts” get tossed out about the dueling countries. Let’s judge their accuracy.

Brit model Amelie: “I’m sexy; I’m from Oxford. The dictionary is from Oxford.” England’s first dictionary was Robert Cawdrey’s “A Table Alphabeticall,” published in 1604 in London.

Brit model Annaliese: “America is not ready for the British invasion. Like we did it once, we can do it again.” Hate to break it to you, but America won the Revolutionary War.

U.S. model Kyle: “These girls are from the U.K.? That’s not America!” Kyle, you are like a geographic genius!

Annaliese: “We don’t really do parades in England.” Guess you missed WWI victory parades and London’s Easter Monday Harness Horse Parade, to name a few.

Guest judge Kelly Osbourne assessing a photo of models jumping on trampolines while dressed as Michelle Obama and Margaret Thatcher: “It not only tells a story but captures the decade in which both of the women were powerful.” Oh, Kelly, Kelly, Kelly.

Marc Silver has been watching TV since the days when people wrapped aluminum foil around TV antennae to improve reception.
