Rob, 28, is a policy analyst at the EPA. Ellen, 28, is a graduate student studying microbiology. They live in D.C.

The Main Event: Oct. 13 in Woodbury, Minn.

How They Met:

First Date: Fado’s Irish Pub in Chinatown. “I had accidentally left my ID in my car, so I had to sweet-talk my way into the bar. I didn’t want him to think I was being a major flirt (with other men!) on our first date.”

First Kiss: In the basement of her house, while they were watching Disney’s “Hercules.”

How He Proposed: Midway through a trip to Ireland. He gave her a ring that had belonged to his great-great-grandmother.

Pet Names: She is “Crow,” “like from the ‘Scrubs’ episode where Dr. Kelso says ‘Women are like crows; they like shiny things,’ ” Rob says. “This is because of how much she liked looking at the sparkle on her ring after we got engaged.”

When She Knew: A few months in, when they were running errands. “Rob, in an effort to entertain himself, was dancing in the aisles.”

Making It Unique: “There may or may not be a ‘Thriller’ dance by the wedding party,” Rob says.
