Celebrity chef Art Smith is known for his fried chicken. But with “Art Smith’s Healthy Comfort” ($28, HarperOne), he’s also trying to make a name for his “unfried” chicken, a recipe that calls for the breaded bird to be baked. Such smart choices helped Smith shed 120 pounds, and he hopes to help others struggling with their weight by sharing his favorite meals, strategies and stories. (If you’re still interested in his original fried chicken recipe, you’ll find it in the chapter on “party day” foods.)

Smith will host a signing at his Capitol Hill restaurant Art and Soul (415 New Jersey Ave. NW) from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday. The night’s happy hour — from 4 to 7 p.m. — will feature bites from the book, including whole grain griddle bread, edamame hummus and lamb kabobs.
