About 40 other people were doing the same thing as part of the first installment of Workout Wednesdays, a new initiative by the Downtown DC Business Improvement District to liven up the green space.

“It could be so much more than some place for eating lunch,” says the BID’s Karyn Le Blanc.

A rotating roster of free exercise classes led by instructors from Crunch Fitness will continue weekly through Sept. 25. Participants can keep up their energy with water and fruit compliments of Freshii and get advice on workout attire from City Sports representatives. For details, go to
