Last time she hosted, Ellen DeGeneres got Steven Spielberg to take her photo with Clint Eastwood, mocked the Brits and almost vacuumed up Penelope Cruz’s dress in the middle of the show. We can count on similar wholesome humor — and dancing — from the comedian this year.
2. Pink Doing… Something?
Producers announced pop star Pink would appear at the awards in what they called “a highly anticipated moment on the broadcast.” Given her acrobatic performance at the Grammy Awards, it must be a trapeze re-enactment of “American Hustle.”
This year’s best song list includes a notable number of high-profile nominees. Expect Idina Menzel and U2 to belt it on “Frozen’s” “Let It Go” and “Mandela’s” “Ordinary Love,” respectively. “The Moon Song” will suddenly seem more charming once it’s Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs singing it and not the disembodied computer voice from “Her.” And Pharrell will charm the pants off everyone in the audience with the infectious “Happy” from “Despicable Me 2.”
4. ‘The Wizard of Oz’ Tribute
Judy Garland’s children, Lorna Luft, Joey Luft and, of course, Liza Minnelli, are said to be appearing in a tribute for the 75th anniversary of Garland’s film “The Wizard of Oz.” Producers are keeping mum on the tribute’s specifics (WILD GUESS: Liza will be singing).
5. Bill Murray Presenting
Hard to believe, but Bill Murray has never had the honor of handing someone an Academy Award. Looks like he’s finally made it.
