For a workout, you can carry a watermelon. (FYI: An onstage version of “Dirty Dancing” opens Aug. 26 in D.C.) But it may be even better for you to just eat it — the fruit is a good source of lycopene (an antioxidant) and vitamins A and C, and it can reduce post-exercise muscle soreness.

This light, refreshing blend of watermelon, tomato, cucumber and jalapeno is sold by the pint ($6) and quart ($11), but one sip and you’ll be wishing for a gallon. The annual summer special — a puree, with bite-sized chunks of watermelon floating around — is ideal for a “schvitzy day,” says Soupergirl owner Sara Polon.

Marine Corps Marathoners will be offered this new juice at the finish line. Feeling lazy? You can buy it for $3.50. It’s 100 percent juice (but just 95 percent* watermelon — grape and pomegranate are in there too), with no added sugars. The result is a tad sweeter than our tasters would have preferred. Running first is wise: It has 120 calories per 12-ounce bottle.

“It doesn’t get much healthier than this,” says Pleasant Pops co-founder Roger Horowitz, who notes that the $3 sweet treat packs fewer than 30 calories. But it’s loaded with flavor thanks to locally sourced ingredients. Better act fast if you’re craving one — the seasonal flavor will stick around only through the end of the month.
