Duke’s Grocery, the beloved Dupont hang with an East London twist, is opening a second iteration in Woodley Park to be called Duke’s Counter.

The new business will be located at 3000 Connecticut Ave. NW in the space that formerly held Zoo Bar Cafe, which served the neighborhood for decades before shuttering last year.

“We’re going to maintain that welcoming fun vibe,” managing partner Daniel Kramer says of the space, located directly across from the National Zoo. “We’re excited to join the Woodley Park community and to have a super, super cute neighbor named Bei Bei.”

The menu at Duke’s Counter will be similar to the one at Duke’s Grocery, with the addition of a few items and a children’s menu. And don’t worry — the Proper Burger will be available. “A larger kitchen allows for more flexibility,” Kramer says. “We’ll have a fryer and will be able to do things like fish and chips.”

Kramer anticipates the new spot will open sometime this year after an interior rehab.
