Tangysweet to reopen as a to-go window in Penn Quarter

Fans of frozen yogurt, rejoice: Tangysweet is returning to Penn Quarter.

Kind of.

The fro-yo shop operated for eight years until 2015, when owner Aaron Gordon closed it to make way for Bakers & Baristas, his European-inspired cafe. But following requests from the neighborhood to start serving the frozen treat again, Gordon carved out a 6-by-7-foot cube in the Bakers & Baristas storefront to create what is essentially the city’s teeniest frozen yogurt stand.

“The market was oversaturated, and then it was over-corrected,” says Gordon, referring to two nearby frozen yogurt shops that recently closed. “But there are still people who love it.”

Called The Pint Sized Pop Up, the space operates as a to-go window from which, starting Saturday, people can order two flavors of fro-yo (plus toppings) and fruit smoothies. Come colder weather, Gordon anticipates it will serve hot chocolate or soup.

“We’re getting creative with our space,” Gordon says. “I’m not sure if you’re aware, but rents around here are pretty high.”

501 Seventh St. NW; daily, 11 a.m.-11 p.m. starting Saturday.
