A stamp featuring a photo of a sacred lotus taken at the Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens in Northeast D.C. is among 16 new “Forever” stamps being issued by the U.S. Postal Service in honor of the National Park Service’s 100th anniversary.

Kenilworth was chosen from among the country’s more than 400 national park sites because it’s unusual — an urban oasis as well as the country’s only national park devoted to cultivating aquatic plants, says USPS spokesman Mark Saunders.

“We want to show more than the traditional incredible landscapes that many people are already familiar with,” Saunders says.

The stamps, which feature a photo by Alexandria-based photographer Cindy Dyer, will be issued on June 2.
