The U.S. national team, defending World Cup champions, opened the 2019 tournament with a 13-0 win over Thailand. It was the most lopsided victory in World Cup history for men or women. Alex Morgan’s five goals tied the U.S. record, and Rose Lavelle and Samantha Mewis scored two goals each.
