All adults in the U.S. are now eligible for a coronavirus vaccine. Steady increases in vaccine supply have driven the number of shots to well over an average of 3 million per day.
Federal health officials called for a pause in the use of the Johnson & Johnson coronavirus vaccine on April 13, saying they are reviewing reports of a rare and severe type of blood clot, a move that may slow the increase in vaccinations. The J&J vaccine has been seen as a key component of vaccine delivery because it requires only one dose instead of two.
Both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines require a follow-up shot three or four weeks after the first dose.

These charts show the percent of the population in each racial or ethnic group that has received a vaccine so far. Percents are calculated for the population age 16 and older. Public health and government leaders said that racial and ethnic equity would be critical in distributing vaccines, but data collection on the race of recipients has been poor. According to CDC data, a larger share of the White population has been vaccinated compared with Hispanic, Asian or Black populations. Alaskan Native and Native American populations have a higher rate of vaccination due to larger shipments going to Alaska and vaccines being distributed through the Indian Health Service.
The risk of hospitalization and death from covid-19 rises with age, and vaccination rates have followed that pattern, with prioritization for people in nursing homes and for older Americans.
