Sounds like it’s pretty intimidating to be friends with Meryl Streep

Viola Davis presented the Cecil B. DeMille Award to Meryl Streep (basically a lifetime achievement award) and started off by explaining what we all assumed: It’s really intimidating to be friends with Meryl Streep.

For example, you’ll tell her about an apple pie you made — but if the crust isn’t homemade, she doesn’t believe you actually made the pie. Or she’ll fix you with an intense stare, and you’ll think, “Do I have something in my teeth, or does she want to kick my ass?”

Of course, she also raved about how Streep made an impact on so many people: “Her artistry reminds us of the impact of what it means to be an artist, which is to make us feel less alone.”

Davis starred with Streep in the drama “Doubt,” and said that while they were filming, she was too nervous to tell Streep what she meant to her. So Davis decided to tell her now.

“You make me proud to be an artist,” Davis said to Streep. “You make me feel like what I have in me, my body, my face, my age — is enough.”
