Katy Perry wears a ‘persist’ armband during her performance

On the red carpet, Katy Perry said that her new song, “Chained to the Rhythm,” has more subtext than her usual “fluff” singles, and hopes that the lyrics (“So comfortable, we’re living in a bubble, bubble/So comfortable, we cannot see the trouble, trouble”) help bring people together in these divisive times.

Perry, a vocal Hillary Clinton supporter, wasn’t so subtle in her performance, as she wore a white pantsuit; a sparkly armband that said “persist”; yelled “No hate!” at the end of the song; and projected an image of the Constitution on a background screen.
