Dev Patel brought his mom to the Oscars

Dev Patel, a best supporting actor contender for his performance in “Lion,” brought his beaming mother to the Academy Awards.

“My mom’s, like, on the verge of tears,” Patel told Ryan Seacrest.

“Lion,” which is nominated for best picture, is based on the true story of Saroo Brierley, who was just five years old when he fell asleep on a train and found himself hundreds of miles away from his home in rural India. After being placed in an orphanage, he was adopted by an Australian couple. But Brierley later reunited with his birth mother.

Patel told Seacrest that the mother-son reunion is one of his favorite moments in the film. “There was real truth to it,” he said, adding that he is “filled with a lot of emotion” when he watches it.
