‘Big Little Lies,’ ‘Three Billboards’ and Time’s Up dominate the awards

That’s a wrap on the 2018 Golden Globe Awards. The night’s winners were “Big Little Lies,” which won four prizes, and “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri,” which also took home four. Perhaps appropriately, given the tenor of the evening, both the HBO series and the darkly comic drama revolve around female characters and plots involving rape and domestic abuse.

The real story of the evening, though, wasn’t the awards so much as the recurring theme that the time has finally come to make some changes in Hollywood — and the wider world. Everyone from host Seth Meyers to Cecil B. DeMille Award winner Oprah Winfrey addressed the lack of equality and the need to hold abusers accountable. Even some of the presenters managed to make a statement, as when Natalie Portman called out the all-male lineup of directing nominees. Tune in next year to find out if anything has changed.
