The old image of kosher wines as insipid and sweet no longer holds. Here are five that are more than passable for Passover, which starts April 3.

The Butcher’s Daughter Réserve 2012

Bordeaux, France, $19

The nice Art Nouveau label on this wine shows it as the house wine of a well-known kosher restaurant in Paris. The unnamed blend probably is mostly merlot, with plummy cherry-fruit flavors and plush texture. ABV: 13.5 percent.

A Bordeaux-style blend based on merlot, this is soft and ripe, with some fruit compote flavors. ABV: 14.5 percent.
