Dress It Up Dressings, made by Chevy Chase resident Sophia Maroon, come in four flavors: red wine, apple cider, champagne and chocolate. (Deb Lindsey/FOR THE WASHINGTON POST)

■ Chevy Chase resident and Washington native Sophia Maroon says her Dress It Up Dressings are based on her mother’s 40-year-old recipe and something of a sibling dare: “It’s so good you could sell it,” her brother said years ago. Since last July, she has done just that, offering four flavors of vinaigrette: red wine, apple cider, champagne and chocolate. Her mother thinks the last one is “heresy,” Maroon admits. “My kids can’t get enough of it. Just try it on a salad of spinach with strawberries and pine nuts.”

Nine-ounce, wide-mouth jars, $8.99 to $11.99; available at Whole Foods Friendship Heights; Stachowski’s Deli in Georgetown; the Organic Butcher in McLean; some MOM’s stores; and Bethesda Central Farm Market; go to www.dressitupdressing.com.
