Mushroom mac and cheese, food-mood cookbooks

(Deb Lindsey/For The Washington Post)

IT’S IN THERE: You could round up truffles, porcini and shiitake mushrooms (all dried) plus onion, garlic, cheddar cheese and pasta, but chances are, Urban Accents Mushroom Cheddar Mac and Cheese will be just as delicious as your end result, and probably less expensive. 12.5 ounces (makes five half-cup servings), $9.95. Available at Crate and Barrel stores.

SPEAKING OF SUPERFOODS: Already tired of seeing new-year cookbooks with “diet” in the title? Author Gill Paul and nutritionist Karen Sullivan have identified foods that fit a mood (or mind-set), in four convenient paperback volumes: “Eat Yourself Happy,” “Eat Yourself to Energy,” “Eat Yourself Thin” (not shown) and “Eat Yourself Calm” (Hamlyn, 2014; $9.95 each). A dish from the latter inspired this week’s Weeknight Vegetarian recipe.) Each book includes a menu plan, ingredient “prescriptions” and recipes for breakfast, lunch, snacks, dinner and dessert.
