Maggie Austin cakes, priced for royalty and the rest of us
Very detailed and life like, these cakes are works of art. Austin does it again in a new book, “Maggie Austin Cake: Artistry and Technique.”
Inspired by the still-life paintings of Dutch masters, this is Austin’s homage in sugar roses and ranunculi. Among her tips for making your own: Use homemade gum paste, not store-bought; allow for “mistakes” like small tears in the petals, as that will enhance a natural look; brush with egg white (as glue).
