A selection of Deep Brand snacks from India A-1 Grocery in Arlington. (Deb Lindsey /For The Washington Post)

SNACK TIME: We recently picked up a selection of snacks — made by the New Jersey company Deep Foods — from India A-1 Grocery on Lee Highway in Arlington. Ratlami sev, crispy short chickpea noodles, are spiced with ajwain seed and asafoetida. The kaju mix, tangy from mango powder, includes split moong beans, lentils and cashews (kaju is Hindi for cashew nut). The All-In-One packs a spicy-salty mix of cashews, rice flakes, split moong beans and more, punctuated with a touch of sweet from raisins. Bonus: Each variety is gluten free. Scatter any of the mixes over yogurt, mix with diced red onion, tomato, green chutney and tamarind chutney, or snack simply out of the bag. Divvy into smaller portions for transport; we’re picturing them toted along to an outdoor film screening or the ballpark.
