Where to buy baby ginger

Baby ginger is quickly heading into its awkward preteen stage. You have only about three more weeks to find these immature rhizomes in Washington area farmers markets and in Virginia. Here’s who has them:

Next Step Produce should have baby ginger through October at the Dupont Circle FreshFarm Market, which runs Sundays from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 20th Street NW between Massachusetts Avenue and Connecticut Avenue.

Sandyfoot Farm should have baby ginger through at least October (perhaps into mid-November, depending on the market’s run) at the Forest Farmers Market, which is held on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Forest, Va. (Bedford County).

Casselmonte Farm should have baby ginger through the first week of November at the Powhatan Farmers Market , which runs Thursdays from 4 to 7 p.m. at 3835 Old Buckingham Rd., in Powhatan County, Va. The ginger should also be available at the South of the James Market, which runs Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon at New Kent Road and W. 42nd Street in Richmond.
