House Calls: A Vienna sunroom doubles as a year-round family room
By Megan Buerger,
Vicky Harris and her daughter Meredith, 15, use their Vienna sunroom as a family room. Harris would like the space to feel light and airy while blending with the rest of the home’s Asian-inspired decor. The sofa and media center must stay.
By building a color scheme of beige and blue with subtle red and yellow accents, designer Bart Goldstein creates a cozy, sun-filled sanctuary with room for all.
Goldstein (301-983-9382) is based in Potomac.
Paint the large media cabinet white to make it look less heavy.
Incorporate white accents throughout the rest of the room for continuity, such as a stool, ottoman, accent chair and coffee table.
Instead of two discordant sofas, adding a few chairs makes the seating area chic yet casual.
Keep the walls painted a sandy beige. The existing color is Antique Parchment by Benjamin Moore.
Anchor the furniture on an area rug. A simple geometric pattern is easy on the eye.
Keep colorful accents fresh yet subtle. Rather than two fiery red throw pillows, go the delicate route with colorful embroidery.
One or two potted plants make a stuffy sunroom feel like a greenhouse.
