Phyllis Trevor Higgerson, a New England-based interior designer and photography stylist, touts modern farmhouse as a great option for people who want cozy home interiors that feel “familiar and comfortable, but are also current and stylish.”
For a fresh spin on the classic, rustic style, Higgerson suggests investing in “updated versions of furnishings [you] might have grown up with (or seen in Grandma’s house),” such as adjustable-arm wall sconces, stoneware pottery and printed floor runners.
But don’t forget the black accents, says Higgerson, which “bring the drama” and can provide a clean, bold contrast with the style’s signature muted and neutral shades.
Here are Higgerson’s top picks.
