Looking for the perfect paint color? Check your nails.

A new palette of paint colors based on some of nail polish brand OPI’s bestsellers is now being sold at Ace Hardware stores.

OPI, known for its glossy nail products with wacky names, has partnered with Ford Mustang, Coca-Cola and many celebrities in launching seasonal collections of nail polishes. Now, the popular Chick Flick Cherry might be the red of your dreams for your dining room walls; Vant to Bite My Neck could be the eggplant purple to die for as a bedroom paint color.

“Women are often the ones who make decisions about paint color, so this was a natural fit,” says Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI co-founder and executive vice president. “No color is taboo in painting your nails or painting your walls.”

Sold under Clark + Kensington, the Ace private-label brand, the 18 OPI colors range from the sheer gray My Pointe Exactly to the dramatic teal Can’t Find my Czechbook.

“We were looking for opportunities beyond the traditional sources that had authority in color,” says Dana Larsen, an Ace marketing executive who helped put the deal together, who was wearing the sheer white OPI Don’t Touch my Tutu on her nails when we spoke to her last week. “This gives us the opportunity to pull in new consumers to our paint department.”

Both nail polish and paint are known by fashion-savvy consumers as cheap ways to add personal style. A gallon of OPI Color Palette by Clark +Kensington is about $27; a bottle of OPI nail polish is about $9.50.

I’ll be waiting for my favorite OPI color Bubble Bath in future paint collections. It would make a great pale pink color for a bathroom.
