Gardening tip: Tailor your summer watering to your types of plants

By ,

Summer watering needs vary by plant type. Established trees and shrubs can suffer from the amounts of water needed to keep a lawn green. Direct your turf irrigation accordingly. Water mature woody plants deeply but infrequently. Trees and shrubs planted in the past year should be watered more regularly in hot, dry periods. A light mulch will help retain soil moisture.
