The 15 fifth- and sixth-graders in Cindy Mitlo’s class at the Pinecrest School in Annandale are this year’s first Class of KidsPost. This bright, energetic group loves to read and spend time on the Internet, but they also have big plans for their future and big concerns about the world they live in.

Who is your favorite author? The authors of two popular series — J.K. Rowling (Harry Potter) and Pseudonymous Bosch (Secret Series) — each got two votes. Other favorites included: Roald Dahl, Rick Riordan, Nancy Greene and Dan Gutman.

What’s your favorite game? Monopoly and Minecraft each got three votes.

How much time do you spend on the Internet a week?

More than four hours: 5 kids

Two to three hours: 4 kids

Less than two hours: 6 kids

Do you have a cellphone?Ten kids do not, while the other five have phones.

What’s your favorite ice cream flavor? Mint chocolate chip got four votes, with cotton candy and cookie dough close behind with three votes each.

What do you want to be when you grow up?Among the professions mentioned were actor, veterinarian, teacher, lawyer and mother. Three kids said they weren’t sure, which is just fine!

What’s the biggest problem in the world today? Five kids said global warming and pollution; three said taxes and two said animals being neglected. Other concerns included war, world hunger, health care and terrorism.
